It was a delight to welcome Stephanie Lurssen, from John Wollaston Anglican Community School, to the Rotary Club of Armadale recently to share about her experience at the Rotary National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) in Brisbane. Stephanie was sponsored by the club and obviously enjoyed every moment of her experience.
The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) is a not-for-profit organisation that runs a number of residential programmes to encourage young people in their passion for science, technology, engineering, maths (STEM) and more. The programmes show the wide variety of engaging, rewarding and inspiring study and career options available in these fields. The NYSF Year 12 Programme runs in January each year for students about to enter year 12. Since 1984, it’s empowered more than 11,000 young Australians. Rotary is the Founding Partner of NYSF and today the 21 local Rotary districts across Australia continue to conduct participant selections for the NYSF Year 12 Programme on behalf of the NYSF.
The NYSF is run by youth for youth, with a certain number of participants being selected each year to come back and participate in the Student Staff Leadership Program (SSLP) in preparation to help run the program the year after they first attended.
Stephanie expressed her sincere gratitude the members of the Rotary Club of Armadale for making it possible for her to attend the NYSF programme in Queensland.
She was most enthusiastic about the amazing learning experience and the camaraderie between all of the participants who met each other for the first time.
