Past District Governor, Terry Barritt OAM was just as surprised as his beloved Joan when, at our club meeting of 03 March, President Laurie presented him with a special award from the Royce Abbey Award Committee.
The “400th Royce Abbey Award” was presented “for enthusiasm and commitment to Rotary”. Terry is a long-time member of the Royce & Jean Abbey Scholarship Committee that awards scholarships to allow overseas rec—peents to study agriculture or related skills here in Australia. The Rotary Club of Armadale recently sponsored two such awards: Farm Manager, Ishwar Dass from Mukti Mission in India; and husband & wife Tang Chin Kok & Lily Lee from Calvary Autistic Centre in Malaysia.
The award was generated in Terry’s name when the Rotary Clubs of Armadale & Katanning donated $1,000 to the Abbey Scholarship Fund. So it was most fitting that Treasurer Mark Stephens of the Rotary Club of Katanning was a surprise guest at the meeting. Whilst being a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Armadale, Terry & Joan have a farm at Katanning and he and Joan regularly visit Katanning Rotary Club.
